Summer
The Beacon Hill Nursery School Summer Program is a 10 week creative learning adventure for children aged 2 years to 6 years. Children can enroll for as many weeks as they would like. Following developmentally appropriate practice, children are engaged in and challenged by creatively designed environments and learning activities that stimulate intellectual growth and social skills. This program is open to all children, whether they attend BHNS or not. The Summer Program offers children a mixed-age group experience (with the exception of the toddler program). It also serves as a valuable transition time for children entering BHNS for the first time in the fall.
Staff
Our summer program is staffed by the same experienced, EEC qualified teachers who provide the enriching experiences of our regular school year . We maintain a 1:6 teacher to student ratio (1:4.5 in the Toddler room).
Facilities
The summer program facilities are state of the art early childhood environments that provide optimum opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities. Children enjoy two large, newly renovated, on-site playgrounds—a traditional city playground, complete with a theater stage and our beautiful new natural playscape that offers an abundance of nature and science activities. Our thoughtfully designed classrooms, child-centered library, working kitchen, lunchroom, and gymnasium are all air-conditioned and allow for a broad range of creative indoor activities.
Lunch
Children bring their lunch to BHNS each day. A mid- morning snack is provided. We are a nut-free school in order to protect our children with allergies.
Program activities
Each week of the program includes activities such as arts & crafts, in-house field trips, music, yoga, pretend & free play, science & nature, stories, and water play! Themes such as Animal Adventures, Nature in the City, and Summer Theatre will be complemented with in-house field trips from Curious Creatures, Puddle Stompers, and Puppet Shows! New for summer 2011 – our outdoor natural playscape is a perfect opportunity for your child to watch a piece of nature change through the season – feed birds in the garden, plant vegetables, and check out the blueberry bushes for snack!
