Day One!
Whole Group Times
We started off our day as we will start every day, with a whole group meeting. During our morning meeting every day we will: do the calendar (month, day and date), graph the weather, keep track of the number of days of school, read the message for the day, go over the schedule for the day, and review the question of the day. The question of the day will, the first few weeks, give us a chance to get to know the children and give the children a chance to get to know one another. Eventually we will use the question of the day to reinforce concepts taught to the students or gather information. Today's sign in question was, "What is your favorite color?" The answers were as follows:

During our literacy block, Tracey spent some time helping the children get to know one another. After a review of their favorite colors that they had told us to sign in, Tracey had each JK South student share their favorite food and share if they have a pet. We also got to meet Ms Sheryl who will usually work with us during our Tuesday whole group time. She stopped by to say, "hello" and explain what she will be doing during her time with the students over the next few weeks.
At the end of the day Ms Tracey read Ruby Finds a Worry.

Classroom Explorations
Today the JK South students got to explore the different areas of the classroom during our morning choice time. Choice time is a time for the children to engage with our classroom materials, express themselves creatively, explore math, literacy, and science concepts, work on fine motor control, engage in social interaction with their peers, and so much more! Today the children were able to work on their fine motor skills with some beading, build with Magnatiles, and draw and create at our drawing table. They also got to play in our pretend kitchen, read a book in the loft with friends or with a teacher, and explore some sand sensory trays. Snack is also a "choice" during choice time, though we encourage all of the children to visit the snack table.
