Fall Tree Construction, Color Sorting and Classroom Explorations
Fall Tree Construction
The seasons have changed and it is now the season of fall. During our morning meeting, we looked at a book about all of the seasons and talked about the season transitioning from summer to fall. To welcome and celebrate the change, Coral Room children helped paint large pieces of paper brown today, which will be used to construct a giant tree trunk and branches. They used large paint brushes and big sweeping motions with their whole arm to cover the entire surface area of the paper. We will begin constructing our tree once the paper is dry and will have the children work on another painting project over the next few days to add leaves to our fall tree. Stay tuned!
Sorting Materials by Color
Coral Room children practiced sorting materials by color today during our classroom exploration time. Sorting involves separating objects into groups according to their similarities and as children are noticing the similarities among objects, they are often noticing their differences as well. They sorted teddy bears by the colors red, blue, yellow, orange, green and purple. This activity allowed children to organize materials into a common group, notice attributes of materials (similarities/differences), compare/contrast materials, apply rules and think logically.

Classroom Explorations
Coral Room children had fun in their classroom with friends working on many different activities. In addition to helping paint the tree and sorting colorful bears, they spent time exploring orange slime with small acorns, pumpkins and leaves, setting up the dollhouse at the mini table, painting with red and orange paint at the easels, building number sense while working on small number puzzles, working with small figurines at the light table, building with Magna-Tiles and monsters on the rug, playing in pretend and looking at books in the loft.
