Painting Names, Categories and Classroom Explorations
Categories
We introduced another meeting game for Wednesdays today that we call Categories. To get the game started, the teacher helper selects a card with a topic on it (colors, fruits, vegetables, sea creatures, etc.) and each child has a chance to think of something that is connected to that category to share with the group. We go around the circle until everyone has had a turn. This game helps children build essential cognitive, language, and social skills by organizing information and recognizing how objects relate to one another. Ansel is our teacher helper and he selected the category of dessert items...yum!
Painting Names
We continue to expose the Coral Room children to letters through a variety of literacy games and activities during group times and classroom exploration times. They are learning the names of letters and we have talked about the different letters the children have in their names. Today, the children were able to paint over the letters in their name during our classroom exploration time. This helped them practice recognizing letters in their name, the order of the letters in their name and which shapes the letters in their name have (big line, little line, big curve, little curve). It also helped build an understanding that print goes from left to right.
Classroom Explorations
Coral Room children were busy in their classroom today exploring rice trays with construction trucks, building with Duplo Legos on our new rug, threading beads onto string to make jewelry, observing our apple experiment, creating art with paint sticks at the easels, building shape puzzles, working with a new tool box and building fine motor skills and strength while screwing pieces together, exploring an underwater scene at the light table, playing in pretend and looking at books in the loft. We had a wonderful Wednesday and hope you did too!
