Our Red Room Birthday Traditions

Happy Wednesday everyone!! As your little ones have been busy acclimating to their new learning space we’ve begun the production of our very special birthday tradition in the Red Room. Birthday season is very near and dear to us in this classroom and this is the first year it will begin so close to the first day of school. Penny M., Savina, and Sloane have already turned 3, so it was important for us to get right to work and we’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing for all these celebrations to come. Our blog today will be dedicated to sharing with all of you our approach to birthdays. We hope you enjoy!
Behind the Meaning

Step 1: Preparing Our Crowns

As we welcomed your little ones into their new classroom we invited them to get right to work on creating their birthday crowns. The front table has been set up with construction paper, glue, and tissue paper squares. Your little ones were invited to pick their favorite color before getting right to work. This process has been going on since the first day of school allowing your children to revisit the task. We can’t wait to present them with their beautiful crowns on the day they turn 3! (There will be some added special touches from the teachers, which will be a surprise to the children.)

Part 2:

This morning we were finally ready to start making our salt-dough handprints. As your little ones arrived to school the Project Table was already set up with all the ingredients and tools we needed to create these treasures. We began by introducing everything, talking about why we need recipes and measuring tools. We worked together to measure out the flour, salt, and water. Once our clay was made, we divided it into individual pieces, so each child could work with their own dough.

Time to start mixing our ingredients...

Step 1: 4c of Flour!

Step 2: 1c of Salt!
Step 3: Mixing our dry ingredients!
Step 4: 1 1/2c of Water!
Step 5: Time to start kneading it into dough…

Once our dough was ready, we gave each red roomer their own ball of dough to help continue the kneading process in preparation for their turn.
Finally we were ready to start creating our handprints…

Ready for the oven...
We baked our handprints for about 3 hours and set them aside to cool overnight and tomorrow we'll be ready to start the design process. Stay tuned...
That's a wrap for today! Wishing you all a wonderful rest of your day and we'll see you back in the Red Room on Thursday.❤️
