Morning Meeting:
This morning the children were excited to be all together at meeting! After reading the message it was time for the children to sign in. The sign in task asked the children to put three dots next to their name. This task was working on directional skills which the children will need frequently when writing and throughout life. It also had children matching up a numeral and a quantity.
Today teachers introduced the children to classroom jobs! The children will have their jobs for an entire week before changing them. Each child will have a job each week. It will take 15 school weeks but each child will have a turn with each job. Some jobs are what teachers call “meeting jobs”. These are all the classroom jobs the children complete during morning meeting.
This week:
Victoria will be the schedule monitor and go over the schedule.
Izzy will be the meteorologist and report the weather.
Sophie will be the calendar helper and tell her peers the date.
Wes will be the day jar helper and will add a felt ball to the days of school jar.
Eloise will be the hundred chart helper and write the number that corresponds with the day of school.
Other jobs will be completed throughout the day. This week:
Teddy will be the door manager and hold the door when the class comes in from the playground.
Graham will be the line leader and will lead the class anywhere they are going.
Adam will be the friend counter and will count up the students before leaving each location.
Brayden L will be the bell ringer and will ring the bell whenever teachers need to give the class a message.
Alden will be the snack helper and will spray the tables with soap and water before snack each day.
Finally there are end of the day jobs. This week:
Winn will be the librarian and will pick the end of the day story.
Kian will be the gardener and will spray the plants with water.
Zander will be the teachers’ helper and will fill in when anyone cannot do their job and assist teachers whenever there is anything else they need.
Literacy:
Today the children enjoyed literacy small groups. The children joined a teacher on the rug in groups of three or four. Each group learned the Lively Letters f and v! First the children learned the Quiet Lip Biting Sound: f also known as the Friendly Fire Breathing Dragon. He bites his lip and blows quiet air on it while he sticks out his head. The second sound the children learned was the Noisy Lip Biting Sound: v also known as the Friendly Vampire. He bites his lip and blows loud air on it while he drives his van around town.
During the first choice time the children continued to work with Sheryl one at a time to show off all their skills.
Closing Meeting:
At the end of the day it was time for Adam's birthday wishes!
Choice Time:
Today during Choice Time, the children enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities and followed their own interests as they explored the classroom. Our new red Play-Doh was a big hit! The children had fun using the colorful charms and carefully picking them out of the Play-Doh, giving their little fingers a great fine motor workout.
At the bead lacing table, the children worked with focus and patience as they placed each bead onto the string, creating some very special jewelry to bring home.
At the light table, we had some pyramid builders hard at work! The children experimented with balance, shapes, and building as they created their own pyramid structures.
Other children chose to play in dramatic play, cozy up in the loft and read with their teachers, create wonderful inventions at the Creation Station, or build imaginative structures with tracks and blocks.
