We were so excited to have our whole group in school today and we were able to take our first class photo. We took a bunch...enjoy!

Morning Meeting

Each day in the Coral Room, we come together for a meeting time on the rug. To start our meeting, each child chooses a color stick and that is their special place to sit whenever we come together as a classroom community. Currently during our meeting time, we are learning how to sit, listen and take turns while a teacher goes through the calendar routines. Eventually, the children will get classroom jobs and helping with the calendar routines will be a job of one of the students. Our calendar routines consist of identifying the name of the month and day of the week, counting and sequencing numbers and recognizing a color pattern. We also look out our classroom windows to see what the weather is and record it on our calendar and on a bar graph. Although these concepts are a little advanced for this time of the year, the children will continue to get practice and will develop a deeper understanding of these mathematical concepts as we build them into our daily routine. Our meeting time is also used to implement curriculum, introduce math and literacy concepts, ask and answer questions, sing songs, play instruments, chat and read stories. We hope as we get more practice sitting and listening, we can incorporate some whole group games and extend our meeting time to build other important foundational skills.

Front Playground Fun

While our back playground is under construction, we will be visiting the front playground daily. The Coral Room children have been enjoying taking trips down the slides, running around, balancing on logs and digging and cooking in the sandbox. We enjoyed the beautiful day outside and worked up an appetite for snack once we got back to our classroom. When the back playground is ready for kids, we will visit the front playground on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the back playground on Tuesday and Thursday.
